Chambers Tutoring offer high-quality, 1-2-1 tutoring in Fife, Edinburgh and throughout Scotland. We work across a range of subjects for primary and secondary school children. Crucially, we do not focus solely on the subject material, but also on the art of learning itself. We aim to teach skills that are transferable into all walks of life and to boost the confidence of your child, enabling them to reach new heights.
Primary School Children
For primary age children, we offer support in core English and Maths work from primary 1 right through the stages. Firstly learning to read and then using this skill to ‘read to learn’ is clearly some of the most important learning a child will do. Writing is still the most common way that pupils are asked to ‘show what they know’ and knowledge of spelling and grammar underscores this. Maths is all around us and children need to work with different aspects, understanding the concepts and being able to calculate accurately.
Secondary School Children
For secondary children we offer Maths, English and our three foreign languages – French, Italian and German – as well as History, Modern Studies and Geography from the very beginning all the way up to SQA certification levels: National 5 and Higher. We also now offer Physics, Biology and Chemistry, but with very limited availability!
Why Hire a Tutor?
During a weekly tutoring session, your child will experience more 1-2-1 interaction with a teacher than will ordinarily be the case in a whole school week or more. This is not a criticism of either schools or teachers, it is simply a statement of fact: teachers have up to 33 children in a class and cannot offer the depth of 1-2-1 time that a tutor can.
This time allows us to build close relationships with the children and young people that we work with. It gives us the space to help your child learn about themselves as a learner. Understanding how they learn – knowing what is easy and what is more challenging – is a powerful tool to boost learning and self-esteem. This ‘thinking about thinking’ is called metacognition.
Additional Support Needs & Chambers Tutoring
We are also aware that many children experience Additional Support Needs, (ASNs). Working one to one with your child, we will look to understand where the barriers to learning are and to build strategies and methods to better enable them to fulfil their potential. We Support Private School Entry
We are also experienced in preparing children for the competitive entrance exams that many independent schools in Scotland and further afield set in order to decide who is offered a place. Click here to find out more about independent schools
