Support for Primary-Aged Children

Primary Tutoring is very important to us here at Chambers Tutoring. The foundations for later knowledge must be steady.
We encourage young people to push themselves when it comes to their education, whatever stage they may be at.

Primary Tutoring

At Chambers Tutoring, we recognise the value of the skills, knowledge and understanding that develop during your child’s primary school years and our primary tutoring is a great way to boost this. From entering P1 and learning to read and count, then progressing all the way through the seven years, your child is exposed to a vast amount of information  Reading becomes a key tool for learning; writing progresses to allow the creation of stories and reports in increasing length and depth and increasingly complex maths concepts are mastered.

You will notice that the focus of this section is on English and Maths tutoring. Many other things are studied in primary school – science, social subjects and the arts – but English and Maths are the core. Good levels of attainment in these will give your child the best chance to access the widest range of possibilities in the secondary curriculum, to explore where their interests take them and to excel in whatever they choose to do.

Our job, when working with your child, is to enable them to reach their potential. There are two things that are generally true with class sizes around or above 25 and up to 33. Firstly, each child has really very little one to one time with a teacher and secondly, each child has ‘headroom’ between where their attainment is and their potential. This is in no way a criticism of schools or teachers and we would not like anyone to consider it as such – it is simply an objective fact and a result of numbers.

1-2-1, (or in some cases 1-2-2) primary tutoring on a regular basis addresses both of these. Clearly the individual attention addresses the first point. It is then the effective use of that time that we specialise in at Chambers Tutoring that addresses the second. Starting by assessing where your child is in their learning and then taking time to build a relationship, to study curricular topics in detail and to help your child to begin to understand themselves as a learner, the pace or learning will increase.

At Chambers Tutoring we always start an individual primary tutoring programme from where your child is in there learning. We develop the triangle of child – tutor – parent and encourage rigour in all pieces of work whether done in session or as part of regularly set homework. This homework is designed and set to consolidate the work done in the session.

We are happy to discuss any requirements and answer any questions you may regarding your child’s education so please get in touch.
