Maths Tutoring

Maths is the 2nd most important core subject, (after English), that is taught in schools. This is also mandatory for study up until at least the end of 4th year. Our maths tutoring will support your child to consolidate their knowledge and understanding of the key concepts covered in the primary school curriculum as they expand their learning through the 3rd level of the Curriculum for Excellence.

These concepts include working with whole numbers; fractions, decimals and percentages; measurement; angles; shapes and statistics and at Chambers Tutoring we can support the learning of this knowledge.

We can support the acquisition of maths skills up to and including SQA certification phase and we do this most often alongside our tutoring in other areas – English, modern languages and social subjects.

Maths learning in secondary school years can be tricky for some young people because it is, at this stage, that many of the concepts become more abstract. The arithmetical work and more basic ideas from primary school are often now the tools by which questions and problems in these concepts are tackled and solved. This change is gradual but, combined with the change in learning and teaching model that comes with the move to high school, it can lead to bumps in the road.

Maths is a body of knowledge where previous learning has to be secure in order that it can be effectively employed as your child progresses through the curriculum. Our maths tutoring focuses on ensuring that young people are confident in their understanding before they move on to working at National 4, National 5 and Higher level and keeping this momentum during the certification levels themselves.
